Why Taiwan Technology Companies Build World-Class Technology — But So Few Global Tech Giants
What Appier, Gogoro, and Perfect Corp. teach us about the challenge of building global technology companies from Taiwan
Taiwan technology companies have built one of the most extraordinary industrial ecosystems in the world.
They manufacture the world’s most advanced semiconductors. They build AI servers, networking equipment, notebooks, smartphones, power systems, and countless components hidden inside the global technology economy.
When the world needs to scale a new generation of computing infrastructure, Taiwan is often where engineering becomes production.
And yet there is a paradox.
For all of Taiwan’s technological strength, relatively few Taiwan technology companies have become globally recognized software leaders, consumer platforms, or technology brands.
Taiwan has become exceptionally good at scaling technology.
But scaling a global technology company requires something different.
It requires distribution.
Brand.
Capital allocation.
International sales.
Software economics.
Market timing.
Organizational design.
And, perhaps most importantly, the ability to capture a meaningful share of the value that technology creates.
That distinction became the central question behind Season 3 of Taiwan Tech Intelligence.
Instead of studying another group of semiconductor suppliers or AI infrastructure companies, I wanted to examine three Taiwan technology companies that attempted something fundamentally different.
Appier.
Gogoro.
Perfect Corp.
They operate in very different industries. Their business models are different. Their capital requirements are different. And their outcomes have been very different.
But all three attempted to answer the same question:
Can a technology company built from Taiwan scale beyond Taiwan and capture global value?
Taken together, their stories reveal something much larger than the prospects of three individual companies.
They offer a glimpse into what Taiwan’s next stage of technological development may require.
The Taiwan Technology Companies Paradox
Taiwan’s rise was built around an extraordinarily successful industrial model.
For decades, Taiwan technology companies learned how to become indispensable without necessarily becoming visible.
A semiconductor may carry an American company’s logo.
A server may be sold by a global cloud provider.
A notebook may carry a famous international brand.
But underneath those products sits an enormous Taiwanese engineering and manufacturing system.
This model created world-class capabilities in manufacturing, component integration, supply-chain coordination, yield improvement, cost control, and rapid engineering iteration.
It also created one of the densest technology ecosystems anywhere in the world.
But there was a trade-off.
Much of Taiwan’s technology economy developed around B2B relationships inside global supply chains, rather than ownership of the final customer relationship.
The customer often belonged to someone else.
The brand belonged to someone else.
The distribution channel belonged to someone else.
And much of the highest-margin layer of value capture could therefore belong to someone else.
That was not necessarily a failure.
On the contrary, Taiwan’s manufacturing-centered model created enormous economic value and helped build some of the most strategically important companies in the global technology industry.
But the skills required to become indispensable inside someone else’s ecosystem are not identical to the skills required to build your own.
That distinction matters increasingly in the AI era.
Because Taiwan now has an opportunity to move beyond being only the place where technology is manufactured.
It can also become a place where new global technology companies are created.
The question is how.
Season 3 offered three very different answers.

Appier: Can Taiwan Technology Companies Build Global Enterprise Software?
Appier represents perhaps the cleanest departure from Taiwan’s traditional technology model.
There is no factory network at the center of the company.
There is no physical product that must be manufactured at enormous scale.
There is no semiconductor process advantage.
Instead, Appier built around software, data, artificial intelligence, and enterprise customers.
That makes the company particularly interesting.
Taiwan has produced world-class engineers for decades, but software companies operate under a fundamentally different economic model from hardware manufacturers.
The marginal cost of distributing another copy of software can be extremely low.
That creates the possibility of high gross margins and global scalability.
But it also removes many of the traditional advantages enjoyed by Taiwan technology companies.
A software company cannot rely on manufacturing density alone.
It must acquire customers.
It must build international sales organizations.
It must understand different markets.
It must create a product that can be deployed repeatedly without requiring the company itself to scale linearly with every customer.
In other words:
Software replaces manufacturing scale with distribution scale.
Appier’s journey therefore matters beyond Appier itself.
It asks whether a company originating in Taiwan can build an enterprise software organization capable of competing across Asia and eventually beyond it.
And it highlights one of the most important lessons facing Taiwan technology companies:
Engineering talent can build the product. Distribution determines how far the product travels.
That distinction becomes even more important as AI lowers the cost of building software.
In an era when technological capabilities can diffuse rapidly, possessing good technology may become less rare.
The harder problem may increasingly be building the organization capable of turning that technology into durable customer relationships.
For Taiwan, this is unfamiliar territory compared with manufacturing.
But it may also represent one of the country’s largest opportunities.

Gogoro: When Taiwan’s Engineering Strength Meets Physical Economics
If Appier represents the software-first path, Gogoro represents almost the opposite experiment.
Gogoro attempted to combine software, hardware, energy infrastructure, mobility, batteries, and a consumer brand into a single technology platform.
Few Taiwan startups have ever attempted something so ambitious.
The company’s battery-swapping network transformed the experience of electric scooters in Taiwan. Instead of waiting for a battery to charge, riders could exchange depleted batteries at stations distributed across cities.
From an engineering perspective, the system was elegant.
From a user-experience perspective, it solved a real problem.
And from a technology-brand perspective, Gogoro demonstrated something Taiwan technology companies have historically struggled to produce:
a highly visible consumer technology brand with a distinctive identity.
But Gogoro also exposed another reality.
Not all technology scales like software.
Physical infrastructure carries very different economics.
Every new geography may require stations.
Every station requires hardware.
Hardware requires manufacturing.
Infrastructure requires maintenance.
Inventory must exist somewhere.
Deployment requires capital before utilization reaches maturity.
And local market conditions can dramatically affect the economics of expansion.
That means technological elegance does not automatically translate into globally scalable economics.
This is one of the most important lessons from Gogoro.
Taiwan’s engineering culture is exceptionally good at solving difficult technical problems.
But a technically superior system can still struggle if the economics required to reproduce that system across markets become too demanding.
This does not diminish Gogoro’s engineering achievement.
It makes the case more important.
Because it exposes the difference between:
Can this technology work?
and
Can this business model scale economically?
Those are not the same question.
For the next generation of Taiwan technology companies, understanding that distinction may be critical.

Perfect Corp.: Can Taiwan Technology Companies Capture the Decision Layer?
Perfect Corp. presents a third model.
Its origins are connected to Taiwan’s long history of consumer software, but its opportunity lies at the intersection of AI, beauty, commerce, and digital decision-making.
At first glance, virtual makeup and beauty technology might appear narrower than enterprise AI or electric mobility.
But that misses the strategic layer.
The important question is not merely whether AI can simulate lipstick, hair color, skin analysis, or beauty products.
The important question is:
Who owns the digital layer where a consumer decides what to buy?
Commerce is increasingly mediated by software.
Before purchasing a product, consumers search, compare, visualize, evaluate, and receive recommendations.
AI can increasingly participate in each of those steps.
That creates a potentially valuable position between brands and consumers.
Perfect Corp.’s technology therefore illustrates a different form of globalization for Taiwan technology companies.
It does not need to build a physical infrastructure network in every country.
Nor does it depend entirely on traditional enterprise software workflows.
Instead, it can embed its technology into the digital commerce infrastructure of global beauty brands and retailers.
That makes the central strategic question one of value capture.
If AI increasingly influences the moment of consumer decision, how much of the economic value created at that layer can the technology provider retain?
This question will become increasingly important far beyond beauty.
AI is moving from generating information to influencing decisions.
Shopping.
Travel.
Finance.
Healthcare.
Enterprise procurement.
When AI begins participating in decisions, the companies controlling those decision layers may occupy extremely valuable positions.
Perfect Corp. offers a Taiwanese experiment in precisely that direction.
Three Taiwan Technology Companies, Three Globalization Models
Viewed individually, Appier, Gogoro, and Perfect Corp. appear to have little in common.
Viewed together, however, they form a useful experiment in how Taiwan technology companies can scale globally.

The contrast is revealing.
All three companies possess technology.
But technology alone does not determine their economic destiny.
Their scaling models do.
And this points toward a larger lesson.

Lesson 1 — Taiwan Technology Companies Must Master Distribution
Taiwan’s traditional technology ecosystem became world-class partly because distribution was often handled elsewhere.
An ODM does not need millions of consumers to recognize its brand.
A semiconductor supplier does not necessarily need a global consumer marketing organization.
A component manufacturer may need only a relatively small number of deeply embedded customer relationships.
Software changes that equation.
Platforms change it further.
Building global technology companies requires organizations capable of reaching customers repeatedly across markets.
That may require enterprise sales teams, developer ecosystems, partnerships, digital acquisition, brand building, or entirely new distribution channels.
Taiwan has spent decades optimizing the supply side of technology.
Its next challenge may be mastering the demand side.
Lesson 2 — Engineering Excellence Does Not Guarantee Scalable Economics
This may be the most uncomfortable lesson.
Engineers naturally focus on whether a problem can be solved.
Businesses must also ask whether solving it creates attractive economics.
Gogoro illustrates this tension particularly clearly, but the principle applies broadly across Taiwan technology companies.
A technically impressive system can still face:
high capital requirements,
long payback periods,
market-specific deployment costs,
difficult customer acquisition,
or insufficient pricing power.
This distinction will become especially important in emerging areas such as robotics, autonomous systems, smart infrastructure, and Physical AI.
Taiwan may have enormous engineering advantages in all of them.
But the winners will not simply be the companies that build the best machines.
They will be the companies that design the most scalable economic systems around those machines.
Lesson 3 — Capital Intensity Changes the Rules of Globalization
Software and physical infrastructure operate under very different laws.
A software company can enter a new market with relatively little incremental physical investment.
An infrastructure company cannot.
That difference affects nearly everything:
growth speed,
cash requirements,
risk,
organizational complexity,
and the consequences of expansion mistakes.
This is why comparing Taiwan technology companies purely by revenue growth can be misleading.
The more useful question is:
How much additional capital is required to generate the next dollar of durable revenue?
That question becomes particularly important for Taiwanese companies moving from component manufacturing into platforms and services.
Not every higher-value business model is automatically a better business model.
Value must be considered alongside the capital required to capture it.
Lesson 4 — Taiwan Technology Companies Must Learn Value Capture
Perhaps the most important concept connecting all three companies is the distinction between creating value and capturing value.
Taiwan technology companies are exceptionally good at creating technological value.
Their engineers solve difficult problems.
Their manufacturers reduce costs.
Their suppliers improve yield.
Their factories accelerate production.
Their ecosystems make global innovation possible.
But the company creating technological value does not necessarily capture the largest share of the resulting economic value.
Brands can capture value.
Platforms can capture value.
Distribution channels can capture value.
Software layers can capture value.
Customer relationships can capture value.
Intellectual property can capture value.
AI makes this question even more urgent.
As intelligence becomes embedded throughout products and services, value may migrate toward the companies controlling the interfaces where decisions are made.
Taiwan’s next challenge is therefore not abandoning manufacturing.
It is building additional layers of value capture on top of the manufacturing and engineering capabilities it already possesses.
That distinction is critical.
The goal should not be to replace Taiwan’s industrial strengths.
It should be to compound them.
Lesson 5 — The Next Taiwan Unicorn May Look Very Different
For years, discussions about the Taiwan startup ecosystem have often implicitly asked:
Where is Taiwan’s next Silicon Valley-style unicorn?
But perhaps that is the wrong question.
Taiwan does not need to reproduce Silicon Valley.
The strongest future Taiwan technology companies may emerge from the unusual combination of capabilities Taiwan already possesses:
semiconductors,
advanced manufacturing,
AI infrastructure,
precision engineering,
enterprise software,
robotics,
energy systems,
and increasingly AI.
The most interesting Taiwanese technology companies of the next decade may therefore sit between traditional categories.
Not purely hardware.
Not purely software.
Not simply manufacturing.
Not simply SaaS.
They may combine physical systems with intelligence.
Manufacturing with recurring software revenue.
Industrial expertise with global platforms.
AI with highly specialized domain knowledge.
The opportunity is not to become another Silicon Valley.
It is to build companies that Silicon Valley would have difficulty building without Taiwan.
From the World’s Factory to a Global Technology Ecosystem
Taiwan’s first great technology transformation turned the island into one of the world’s most important manufacturing centers.
Its second transformed it into the center of advanced semiconductor production.
The AI era may create the conditions for a third.
Taiwan technology companies are already becoming indispensable to AI infrastructure.
They manufacture chips, servers, networking equipment, power systems, cooling technologies, printed circuit boards, and countless components required to build the physical foundation of artificial intelligence.
But the larger opportunity is not simply producing more hardware.
It is converting this extraordinary concentration of engineering capability into new forms of economic value.
That means building companies capable of owning more of the stack.
More intellectual property.
More software.
More platforms.
More customer relationships.
More distribution.
More recurring revenue.
And ultimately, more of the economic value created by the technology itself.
Appier, Gogoro, and Perfect Corp. show that this transition will not follow a single path.
Some experiments will scale.
Others will struggle.
Some models will prove capital efficient.
Others will reveal the limits of physical expansion.
And some Taiwan technology companies may discover entirely new positions in the global technology value chain.
That is precisely why these experiments matter.
They are not merely startup stories.
They are early attempts to answer a much larger question about Taiwan’s economic future.
What Comes Next for Taiwan Technology Companies?
For decades, the world learned to depend on Taiwan without necessarily seeing Taiwan.
That is beginning to change.
Semiconductors made Taiwan strategically visible.
AI infrastructure is making its broader technology ecosystem increasingly visible.
The next step may be making Taiwan technology companies themselves globally visible.
That transition will require more than excellent engineers.
It will require stronger global distribution.
Better capital allocation.
More sophisticated product strategy.
Deeper understanding of recurring economics.
Greater willingness to own customer relationships.
And a relentless focus on value capture.
Taiwan has already demonstrated that it can build technology the world cannot easily replace.
The question for the next generation is more ambitious:
Can Taiwan build technology companies the world cannot easily replace?
Appier, Gogoro, and Perfect Corp. do not provide a final answer.
But together, they show us what the experiment looks like.
And perhaps more importantly, they show us what Taiwan still needs to learn.

Appier。
Gogoro。
Perfect Corp.(玩美移動)。
它們身處完全不同的產業。
商業模式不同。
資本需求不同。
最終的發展結果也非常不同。
但是,它們其實都在回答同一個問題:
一家從台灣出發的科技公司,能不能真正走出台灣,並在全球市場捕捉價值?
當我們把這三家公司放在一起觀察時,它們告訴我們的,遠遠不只是三家公司的成敗。
它們讓我們開始看見:
台灣科技產業的下一個發展階段,究竟還缺少什麼。
台灣的矛盾
台灣的崛起,建立在一套極為成功的產業模式之上。
數十年來,台灣企業學會了一件非常特殊的事情:
不一定要被全世界看見,也可以成為全世界不可或缺的存在。
一顆半導體,最後可能掛著美國科技公司的品牌。
一台伺服器,可能由全球雲端服務商銷售。
一台筆記型電腦,最終印著國際知名品牌的 Logo。
但是在這些產品背後,往往存在著一整套龐大的台灣工程與製造體系。
這套模式造就了世界級的製造能力、零組件整合能力、供應鏈協調能力、良率改善能力、成本控制,以及極為快速的工程迭代速度。
它也形成了全球最密集的科技產業聚落之一。
但這個模式也存在一個結構性的取捨。
台灣科技產業很大一部分的發展,是建立在全球供應鏈內部的 B2B 關係之上,而不是直接掌握最終客戶。
客戶可能屬於別人。
品牌可能屬於別人。
通路可能屬於別人。
因此,價值鏈中利潤最高的某些環節,也可能由別人掌握。
這並不代表台灣過去的模式失敗。
恰恰相反。
以製造為中心的發展模式創造了巨大的經濟價值,也造就了一批在全球科技產業中具有高度戰略重要性的企業。
問題在於:
成為別人生態系裡不可或缺的角色,與建立自己的全球生態系,所需要的能力並不完全相同。
而在 AI 時代,這個差異開始變得更加重要。
因為台灣現在面對的機會,已經不只是繼續成為「科技被製造出來的地方」。
台灣也有機會成為:
全球新科技公司被創造出來的地方。
問題只是——該怎麼做到?
Season 3 的三家公司,提供了三種完全不同的答案。

Case I — Appier:台灣能不能打造全球企業軟體公司?
Appier 或許代表了台灣傳統科技模式最徹底的一次轉向。
它的核心不是工廠。
沒有必須大規模生產的實體產品。
也不存在半導體製程上的競爭優勢。
Appier 的核心是:
軟體、數據、人工智慧,以及企業客戶。
這也讓 Appier 成為一個特別值得研究的案例。
台灣數十年來培養了大量世界級工程人才,但軟體公司的經濟模型與硬體製造商完全不同。
軟體多服務一位客戶的邊際成本,可以非常低。
這創造了高毛利以及全球規模化的可能性。
但同時,也讓台灣過去許多傳統優勢變得沒有那麼直接。
軟體公司無法只依靠製造聚落的密度取得勝利。
它必須取得客戶。
建立國際銷售組織。
理解不同市場。
並打造一套可以不隨著每增加一位客戶,就等比例增加成本的產品。
換句話說:
軟體產業把「製造規模」的問題,轉變成了「通路規模」的問題。
因此,Appier 的故事重要的地方,並不只在 Appier 本身。
它真正測試的是:
一家從台灣出發的企業軟體公司,能否建立足以跨越亞洲、甚至進一步走向全球的商業組織?
而這也帶出了台灣企業全球化最重要的一個課題:
工程人才可以打造產品,但通路決定產品究竟能走多遠。
當 AI 逐漸降低軟體開發成本之後,這個問題只會更加重要。
在一個技術能力越來越容易快速擴散的世界裡,「擁有好技術」可能不再像過去那麼稀有。
真正困難的問題,反而可能變成:
你能不能建立一個組織,把這項技術轉化成長期而且可重複的客戶關係?
對以製造業見長的台灣而言,這是一個相對陌生的領域。
但它也可能是台灣最大的機會之一。

Case II — Gogoro:當卓越技術遇上實體世界的經濟學
如果 Appier 代表的是 software-first 的道路,那麼 Gogoro 幾乎就是另一個極端。
Gogoro 嘗試把軟體、硬體、能源基礎設施、交通工具、電池與消費品牌,全部整合成一套科技平台。
很少有台灣新創曾經嘗試如此具有野心的計畫。
Gogoro 的換電網路,確實改變了台灣電動機車的使用體驗。
使用者不需要等待電池充電,而是可以直接在城市裡密集分布的換電站交換電池。
從工程角度來看,這是一套優雅的系統。
從使用者體驗來看,它解決了一個真實存在的問題。
從科技品牌角度來看,Gogoro 甚至完成了一件台灣過去很少做到的事情:
建立一個具有高度辨識度的消費科技品牌。
但 Gogoro 同時也揭露了另一個現實。
不是所有科技都能像軟體一樣規模化。
實體基礎設施遵循的是完全不同的經濟法則。
每進入一個新的地理市場,都可能需要新的換電站。
每一座換電站都需要硬體。
硬體需要製造。
基礎設施需要維護。
庫存必須存在於某個地方。
而且在使用率達到成熟規模之前,企業往往必須先投入大量資本。
不同市場的法規、城市密度、交通習慣與產業結構,也可能大幅改變擴張的經濟性。
因此:
技術上的優雅,並不會自動轉化成商業上的可規模化。
這可能是 Gogoro 帶給我們最重要的啟示之一。
台灣的工程文化非常擅長解決困難的技術問題。
但即使擁有技術上非常優秀的系統,如果將這套系統複製到不同市場需要付出過高的成本,全球化依然可能變得極其困難。
這並不減損 Gogoro 的工程成就。
恰恰相反。
正因如此,Gogoro 才是一個如此值得研究的案例。
因為它清楚揭示了兩個完全不同的問題:
這項技術做不做得到?
以及:
這套商業模式能不能有效率地規模化?
兩者並不是同一件事。
對台灣下一代科技創業者而言,理解這個差異可能至關重要。

Case III — Perfect Corp.:掌握消費者做出決策的那一刻
Perfect Corp.(玩美移動)代表的是第三條路。
它的發展背景與台灣過去的消費軟體產業有一定關聯,但今天真正值得關注的機會,存在於:
AI × Beauty × Commerce × Digital Decision-Making
的交叉點。
乍看之下,虛擬試妝與 Beauty Tech 的市場,似乎比企業 AI 或電動交通更加垂直。
但如果只這樣理解,就會錯過真正重要的戰略問題。
真正重要的並不是:
AI 能不能模擬口紅?
能不能改變髮色?
能不能分析膚況?
真正重要的問題是:
當消費者準備購買商品時,誰掌握了影響決策的數位介面?
商業活動正越來越受到軟體的中介。
在購買一件商品之前,我們會:
搜尋。
比較。
預覽。
評估。
接受推薦。
而 AI 正逐漸參與上述每一個環節。
這創造出一個可能非常有價值的位置:
品牌與消費者之間的決策層。

也不完全依賴傳統企業軟體的工作流程。

這也使它真正的戰略問題變成:
價值捕捉(Value Capture)。
如果 AI 越來越能影響消費者做決策的那一刻,那麼提供這個技術層的公司,究竟能保留多少自己所創造的經濟價值?
而且這個問題遠遠不只存在於 Beauty。
AI 正逐漸從「產生資訊」走向「影響決策」。
購物。
旅遊。
金融。
醫療。
企業採購。
當 AI 開始介入決策,掌握這些決策層的企業,就可能站上一個極具價值的位置。
Perfect Corp. 所代表的,正是台灣在這條道路上的一場實驗。
三家公司,三種全球化模型
如果分開來看,Appier、Gogoro 與 Perfect Corp. 似乎沒有太多共同點。
但把三家公司放在一起,我們會得到一個非常有意思的實驗。

這個對比非常重要。
三家公司都有技術。
但決定它們經濟命運的,並不只有技術。
真正關鍵的是它們各自的規模化模型。
而這帶出了更大的問題。

Lesson 1 — 技術不等於通路
台灣傳統科技產業之所以能夠成為世界級,其中一個原因是:
很多時候,通路並不是台灣企業必須解決的核心問題。
ODM 不需要讓全球幾億消費者認識自己的品牌。
半導體供應商也不一定需要建立龐大的全球消費者行銷組織。
零組件公司甚至可能只需要數十個非常深度的大型客戶關係,就能建立極為成功的全球事業。
但軟體改變了這個遊戲規則。
平台更加如此。
要建立全球科技公司,企業必須發展出能夠反覆跨越不同市場接觸客戶的能力。
可能是:
企業銷售團隊。
開發者生態系。
合作夥伴。
數位獲客。
品牌。
或者全新的 distribution channel。
台灣過去數十年一直在優化科技產業的 Supply Side。
下一個挑戰,很可能是:
Demand Side。
Lesson 2 — 卓越工程不代表可規模化的經濟模型
這可能是最令人不舒服,卻也最重要的一課。
工程師自然會關注:
這個問題能不能解決?
但企業還必須回答另一個問題:
解決這個問題之後,能不能形成一套有吸引力的經濟模型?
Gogoro 特別清楚地呈現了這種張力,但這個原則遠遠不只適用於 Gogoro。
一套技術上極為出色的系統,仍然可能面對:
高資本需求、
漫長的投資回收期、
因市場而異的部署成本、
高昂的獲客成本,
以及不足的定價能力。
在 Robotics、Autonomous Systems、Smart Infrastructure 與 Physical AI 等新興領域中,這個差異將變得尤其重要。
台灣在這些領域可能擁有巨大的工程優勢。
但最後的贏家不會只是「打造最好機器的人」。
真正的贏家將是:
能夠在那些機器周圍,設計出最具有規模化能力經濟系統的人。
Lesson 3 — 資本密集度會改變全球化的遊戲規則
軟體與實體基礎設施遵循完全不同的經濟法則。
一家軟體公司進入新市場時,可能不需要投入大量新的實體資產。
基礎設施公司則完全不同。
這個差異會影響:
成長速度、
現金需求、
風險、
組織複雜度,
以及一次錯誤擴張所帶來的代價。
因此,只用營收成長率比較科技公司,很多時候可能產生誤導。
更重要的問題其實是:
為了創造下一塊錢可持續的營收,公司需要再投入多少資本?
這個問題對正在從零組件製造走向平台與服務的台灣企業尤其重要。
「更高價值」的商業模式,不一定自動等於「更好的」商業模式。
我們必須同時考慮:
能創造多少價值,以及需要投入多少資本才能捕捉這些價值。
Lesson 4 — 台灣不只要學會創造價值,也必須學會捕捉價值
如果要找出貫穿這三家公司最重要的概念,我認為就是:
Value Creation 與 Value Capture 的差異。
台灣非常擅長創造科技價值。
工程師解決困難問題。
製造商降低成本。
供應商改善良率。
工廠提高產能。
整個產業生態系讓全球創新得以真正被量產。
但是:
創造科技價值的企業,不一定會得到最多的經濟價值。
品牌可以捕捉價值。
平台可以捕捉價值。
通路可以捕捉價值。
軟體層可以捕捉價值。
客戶關係可以捕捉價值。
智慧財產權也可以捕捉價值。
AI 讓這個問題變得更加迫切。
當智慧開始被嵌入越來越多產品與服務,價值很可能進一步往「掌握決策介面」的企業移動。
因此,台灣下一階段真正的挑戰,並不是放棄製造。
而是:
在台灣原本就擁有的製造與工程能力之上,再建立更多可以捕捉價值的層次。
這個差異非常重要。
我們不是要取代台灣既有的產業優勢。
而是要讓這些優勢產生更大的複利效果。
Lesson 5 — 下一個台灣獨角獸,可能長得完全不一樣
多年來,當我們討論台灣新創生態系時,背後常常隱含著一個問題:
台灣的下一個「矽谷式獨角獸」在哪裡?
但也許這根本就是錯的問題。
台灣不需要複製矽谷。
台灣未來最有競爭力的公司,很可能來自台灣本來就擁有的一組極為特殊的能力:
半導體。
先進製造。
AI 基礎設施。
精密工程。
企業軟體。
機器人。
能源系統。
以及快速成長中的 AI 能力。
因此,未來十年最有意思的台灣科技公司,很可能會出現在傳統產業分類的交界處。
不完全是硬體。
也不完全是軟體。
不只是製造。
也不只是 SaaS。
它們可能把實體系統與智慧結合。
把製造能力與 recurring software revenue 結合。
把工業 know-how 與全球平台結合。
把 AI 與高度專業化的 domain knowledge 結合。
台灣的機會不是成為另一個 Silicon Valley。
而是:
建立那些即使是 Silicon Valley,沒有台灣也很難打造出來的公司。
從「世界工廠」走向全球科技生態系
台灣第一次偉大的科技轉型,讓這座島嶼成為全球最重要的製造中心之一。
第二次轉型,則讓台灣成為先進半導體製造的核心。
AI 時代,可能正在創造第三次轉型的條件。
台灣已經成為 AI 基礎設施不可或缺的一部分。
台灣企業生產:
晶片、
伺服器、
網路設備、
電源系統、
散熱技術、
PCB,
以及無數建構人工智慧實體基礎所需要的關鍵零組件。
但更大的機會,不只是製造更多硬體。
而是:
把這個驚人的工程密度,轉化成更多新的經濟價值。
這代表台灣企業必須逐漸掌握更多 stack。
更多智慧財產。
更多軟體。
更多平台。
更多客戶關係。
更多通路。
更多 recurring revenue。
以及最終——
更多由科技本身創造出來的經濟價值。
Appier、Gogoro 與 Perfect Corp. 告訴我們,這場轉型不會只有一條道路。
有些實驗會成功規模化。
有些會遭遇困難。
有些商業模式會證明自己非常 capital-efficient。
有些則會揭露實體世界擴張的限制。
還有一些公司,可能會在全球科技價值鏈上找到全新的位置。
而這正是這些實驗如此重要的原因。
它們不只是三個新創故事。
它們其實正在嘗試回答:
台灣經濟下一個階段,究竟可以走向哪裡?
台灣科技產業的下一章
數十年來,全世界學會了依賴台灣。
卻不一定真正看見台灣。
半導體,讓台灣開始具有全球戰略上的能見度。
AI 基礎設施,則正在讓全世界看見台灣更完整的科技生態系。
下一步,也許就是讓:
台灣的科技公司本身,被全世界看見。
但這場轉型需要的不只是優秀工程師。
它還需要:
更強大的全球通路。
更好的資本配置。
更成熟的產品策略。
對 recurring economics 更深刻的理解。
更積極地掌握客戶關係。
以及對 Value Capture 更執著的追求。
台灣已經證明:
我們可以打造出全世界很難取代的科技。
下一代真正需要回答的問題,則更加野心勃勃:
台灣能不能打造出全世界很難取代的科技公司?

但把它們放在一起,我們已經開始看見這場實驗的樣貌。
更重要的是——
